Does God want me to be wealthy?
Does God want me to be wealthy?
The Relationship Between Wealth and God
God has all the resources in the world and does not need our money. However, when we properly offer our money to God, we magnify Him, which is worshipping Him. In Philippians 4:19, it is written that God will meet all our needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus. This shows that God is capable of providing for our needs, but it does not necessarily mean that He wants us to be wealthy.
The Importance of Prioritizing God
Jesus Christ became poor so that we could become rich through His poverty (2 Corinthians 8:9). This means that our focus should be on the kingdom of God, not on accumulating wealth. As Matthew 6:33 says, "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." When we prioritize God and His kingdom, we will be blessed, but we should not rely on wealth as a means of blessing. Instead, we should use our wealth to honor God and spread His kingdom.
The Danger of Idolizing Wealth
Wealth should not be idolatrously clutched, but held lightly and used generously for the spread of God's kingdom. The Bible warns against the dangers of wealth, such as pride and independence, which can prevent us from receiving the Holy Spirit (Luke 12:21). We should not rely on wealth to meet our needs or satisfy our desires, but rather seek God's presence and provision. As Psalm 63:1 says, "You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water." Our desire should be to seek God, not wealth.
