The Sovereignty of God and Our Questions

The question of why God allows things to happen to us can be a difficult and painful one. It can be tempting to feel like we are being unfairly treated or that God is somehow absent or uncaring. However, as we explore the sovereignty of God, we see that He is always at work, even in the midst of suffering and difficulty. He is not on a divine ego trip, but rather, He is working to bring about our good and His glory. As the Bible says, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28).

The Mystery of God's Sovereignty

The doctrine of election tells us that we are Christians because God in eternity past decided to set His love on us. But why did He decide to set His love on us? The answer is not always easy to understand, but it is clear that it is not because of anything we have done. We are not saved because we are better than others or because we have been more faithful. Rather, we are saved because of God's sovereign choice. As the Bible says, "For he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him" (Ephesians 1:4). This means that our salvation is not based on our own efforts or decisions, but rather on God's sovereign choice to save us.

Trusting in God's Sovereignty

So what does this mean for us when we are facing difficulties and struggles? It means that we can trust in God's sovereignty, even when things don't seem to be going the way we want them to. It means that we can rest in the knowledge that God is always at work, even when we can't see it. As the Bible says, "I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you" (John 14:18). This means that we can trust in God's goodness and His love, even in the midst of suffering and difficulty. We can trust that He is working everything out for our good and His glory, and that He will bring us through even the darkest of times. As we trust in God's sovereignty, we can find peace and comfort in the midst of our struggles, and we can rest in the knowledge that He is always with us.
