God's design for marriage is a beautiful and complex institution that reflects His creative genius. At its core, marriage is a union between a man and a woman, created in the image of God, with the purpose of reflecting His nature and character (Eph 5:22-23). This union is meant to be a display of God's love for the church, with the husband loving his wife sacrificially and the wife submitting to her husband in reverence for Christ (Eph 5:25-33).

God's design for marriage is also characterized by three unities: oneness of heart and mind, oneness of body, and oneness in God (Eph 5:31-32). This unity is meant to be a reflection of the Trinity, with the husband and wife becoming one flesh, just as God is one in three persons. As Paul writes, "Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
