The Weight of Debt: A Spiritual Perspective

Living in debt can be overwhelming, and it's natural to wonder if life is worth it. From a biblical perspective, God's Word teaches us that debt can be a heavy burden that affects not only our finances but also our hearts. The Bible warns us against the dangers of debt, citing Proverbs 22:7, "The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender." This verse highlights the reality of debt: it can enslave us, making us slaves to the lender.

Furthermore, the Bible encourages us to live a life that is free from the love of money and content with what we have. As Jesus said, "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:21). When we are consumed by debt, our hearts become entangled with the things we possess, rather than with God.
