Living in debt can be a heavy burden that affects not only our finances but also our emotional and relational well-being. The Bible reminds us that God has a plan for our lives, and it's not to live in debt. In Proverbs 22:7, it says, "The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is a slave to the lender." This verse highlights the consequences of living in debt, which is to become a slave to the lender. On the other hand, Psalm 37:25 says, "I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, or his children begging bread." This verse shows us that the righteous, those who live in obedience to God's ways, are not forsaken and are able to provide for their families.

The problem of debt is not just about money; it's also about our values and priorities. When we live in debt, we often prioritize our desires over our needs, and we compromise our values to get what we want. This can lead to a sense of emptiness and dissatisfaction, even if we have all the material possessions we could ever want. The Bible teaches us to be content with what we have and to live within our means. In 1 Timothy 6:10, it says, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and in their eagerness to be rich some have wandered away from the faith and have pierced themselves with many pains." This verse warns us about the dangers of loving money and the importance of living a simple and humble life.

So, what's the point of living if we're in debt? The point is not to accumulate wealth or possessions; it's to live a life that honors God and reflects His character. When we live in debt, we're not living the life God intended for us. We're not free to pursue our passions and live with purpose. Instead, we're slaves to our debt, and we're not able to enjoy the freedom and joy that God has promised us. In Psalm 119:37, it says, "Turn my eyes away from looking at vanities, and give me life in your ways." This verse reminds us to turn our eyes away from the things that distract us and to focus on living a life that's pleasing to God. When we do this, we'll find true freedom and joy, even in the midst of financial struggles.
