The Question of Suffering

Why did I get terminal cancer? This question is a natural response to a diagnosis of terminal cancer. However, it is a question that may not have a clear answer, even from a medical perspective. In the Bible, we see that suffering and cancer are not necessarily the result of a personal sin or a lack of faith. In fact, Jesus himself suffered and died on the cross for our sins, and we are told that we will suffer in this world (John 16:33).

The Sovereignty of God

The Bible teaches that God is sovereign over all creation, including the universe and every person in it. This means that God is in control of all things, including the diagnosis of cancer. However, this does not mean that God causes cancer or that He is responsible for our suffering. Rather, God is working all things together for our good, even in the midst of suffering (Romans 8:28). This means that even in the midst of terminal cancer, God is working out His purposes and plans for our lives.

Faith and Suffering

So, why did you get terminal cancer? This question may not have a clear answer, but it is a question that can lead us to deeper faith and trust in God. In the Bible, we see that faith is not about avoiding suffering, but about trusting God in the midst of it. We are told to "count it all joy" when we face trials and sufferings, because they are opportunities for us to grow in our faith and to glorify God (James 1:2-4). So, even in the midst of terminal cancer, we can choose to trust God and to see the good that He is working out in our lives. This is not to say that we will not experience pain and suffering, but that we can choose to see it as an opportunity to grow in our faith and to glorify God.
