Biblical Answer

I recall a time when my son Joshua was going through a tough phase in his life. He had lost his team's championship game, and he was heartbroken. As a father, it was hard to see him in pain. But as a pastor, I knew that I had to guide him towards hope. I told him that hope is not about avoiding pain or disappointment, but about trusting that God is in control, even when things don't go as planned. It's about knowing that God can take our brokenness and use it for our good.

As I reflected on this experience, I realized that hope is not just a feeling, but a choice. It's a choice to trust in God's goodness, even when our circumstances seem bleak. It's a choice to wait with confidence and trust, as the Bible says (2 Cor. 12:9). When we choose hope, we're not ignoring the pain or the difficulties, but we're facing them head-on, knowing that God is with us. And that's where the power of hope lies – not in making things easy or comfortable, but in giving us the strength to persevere through the tough times.

In my own life, I've experienced my fair share of disappointments and setbacks. But as a Christian, I've learned to trust that God is working everything out for my good (Romans 8:28). I've learned to hope in God's goodness, even when things don't make sense. And that's what I want to pass on to my children, Joshua and Rebecca, and to the people in my church. I want them to know that hope is not a feeling that comes and goes, but a choice that we make every day, to trust in God's goodness and sovereignty.
