Can a person change their path?
Can a person change their path?
Yes, a person can change their path. In fact, the Bible teaches that people can change their lives and walk in a new direction. The book of Proverbs describes the straight path that leads to life and the crooked path that leads to death (Prov. 4:26; 5:21). This metaphor of the path is used to illustrate the choice that people have in life. They can choose to walk in the way of wisdom and follow the straight path, or they can choose to follow the crooked path that leads to destruction.
The Bible also teaches that people can change their lives through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. When a person becomes a Christian, they are given a new heart and a new spirit, and they are enabled to walk in a new way (Ezekiel 36:26-27). The regenerated man finds himself governed by new motives and desires, and things which were once hated are now loved and sought after. This change is not accomplished through any external compulsion, but through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
However, changing one's path requires a decision to change. People don't give up what they're currently doing until they're convinced that what they're currently doing is an obstacle to where or who they want to be. People change when they have a picture of a preferred future. This is why it's essential to have a clear understanding of God's plan for our lives and to be committed to following Him. As the Bible says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). With God's help and guidance, we can change our path and walk in a new direction.
