In the midst of uncertainty and change, it is natural to wonder if one's sense of purpose is still intact. The loss of a traditional retirement can be a significant blow to one's identity and sense of direction. However, the Bible teaches that our purpose is not tied to external circumstances, but rather to our relationship with God. According to Psalm 138:8, "The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me; Your steadfast love, O God, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of Your hands." This verse reminds us that God's purpose for our lives is not dependent on our circumstances, but on His sovereign plan.

In fact, the Bible teaches that our purpose is not even tied to our own desires or goals. As the apostle Paul writes in Philippians 3:7-8, "But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ." This passage shows that our purpose is not in achieving success or security, but in knowing and following Christ. As we surrender our lives to Him, we can find peace and purpose, even in the midst of uncertainty.

In the face of uncertainty, it is essential to focus on what we can control – our relationship with God. As the Bible teaches, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6). By trusting in God's sovereignty and goodness, we can find peace and purpose, even when our external circumstances are uncertain. As we seek to live out our purpose, we can ask ourselves, "What is my vision of God's purpose for me?" and "How can I depend on Him and His power now?" By focusing on our relationship with God, we can find a sense of purpose that is not tied to external circumstances.
