Your Question:

What if I lose my sense of self?

Answer:

Losing one's sense of self can be a difficult and confusing experience. As a pastor, I've seen people struggle with feelings of disorientation and disconnection from their own identity. The Bible teaches us that our sense of self is tied to our relationship with God, and that when we fall away from Him, we can lose our sense of purpose and direction. It's not about losing our individuality, but about surrendering our self-will and submitting to God's will.

In fact, the Bible says that "whoever loses their life will save it" (Luke 9:24). This doesn't mean that we lose our physical existence or our soul, but rather our self-centeredness. When we focus on ourselves, we become stagnant and unable to grow spiritually. But when we surrender our self-will and seek to serve God, we begin to experience true fulfillment and personal development. As the Bible says, "all we do in the body... must be for Christ, not for self" (Gal. 2:20).

As I reflect on my own life, I realize that I've had to surrender my self-will and submit to God's will in order to grow spiritually. It's not always easy, and there are times when I feel like I'm losing my sense of self. But in those moments, I'm reminded that my true identity is found in Christ, and that I'm a new creation in Him (2 Cor. 5:17). By looking outside of myself to God, I've been able to find my true self and experience a deeper sense of purpose and fulfillment.
