Why did i have to lose my business and my sense of purpose?
Understanding God's Purpose
The question of why you had to lose your business and your sense of purpose is a complex one, but it can be approached from a biblical perspective. The Bible teaches that we were created by God to create and to worship Him (Genesis 1:1, 26-27). When we create in a thoughtful and worshipful manner, whether it's preparing meals, decorating a home, achieving a vocational dream, or responsibly raising children, we experience a sense of purpose and fulfillment. However, when we lose our business and our sense of purpose, it can be a challenging and confusing experience.
The Purpose of Trials and Suffering
The Bible also teaches that trials and suffering can be a part of God's plan for our lives (Romans 8:28, James 1:2-4). These experiences can be opportunities for us to depend on God and His power, rather than our own abilities (2 Corinthians 12:9-10). When we face difficulties, we can choose to stay calm, faithful, and unconfused, trusting that God is working all things together for our good. In the midst of turmoil, we can find peace and purpose by keeping our commitments to God and seeking Him daily in prayer and His Word. As the Bible says, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28).
Updating Your Life Plan
Losing a business and a sense of purpose can be a significant setback, but it doesn't have to be the end of your journey. The Bible teaches that you can update your life plan and still achieve your goals, but in a different way. For example, I made some terrible financial decisions early in my ministry that almost put Thomas Road Baptist Church and Liberty University out of business. However, God was gracious and our ministry became stronger because of it. We had to update our life plan, but we didn't change our purpose. We kept our commitments to God and continued to seek Him daily. By doing so, we were able to find new opportunities and achieve our goals in a different way. As the Bible says, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11). Even in the midst of loss and uncertainty, God has a plan to prosper you and give you hope and a future.
