Why Did God Take Away My Only Source of Income?

When faced with the loss of a source of income, it's natural to question God's motives. However, we must remember that God's sovereignty is not limited by our circumstances. He is the Creator and Sustainer of all things, and His ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9). When we lose a source of income, it may be an opportunity for us to trust in God's provision and faithfulness, rather than relying on our own abilities or resources.

Trusting God, Not Circumstances

The Bible teaches us to trust in God, not in our circumstances. When we pray for financial provision and it doesn't come, we must not blame God or question His motives. Instead, we should ask ourselves if we have misunderstood God's will or if we are trying to impose our own timing on Him. Faith is about trusting in God's character and promises, even when we don't understand the circumstances. As Paul wrote, "We live by faith, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7).

Learning to Love God for Himself

The loss of a source of income can be a painful experience, but it can also be an opportunity for us to learn to love God for Himself, rather than relying on Him for our needs. As Jesus said, "Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:20-21). When we prioritize our relationship with God above our financial needs, we can experience a deeper sense of peace and trust in His sovereignty. As the Psalmist wrote, "The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O God, endures forever" (Psalm 138:8). By trusting in God's character and promises, we can learn to love Him for Himself, rather than relying on Him for our needs.
