How do we prioritize our personal goals with our responsibilities?
Prioritizing Personal Goals with Responsibilities
As a Christian, our major purpose in life should be to please God and fulfill His will for our lives. According to Scripture, we are to make it our aim to be well pleasing to Him (2 Corinthians 5:9). This means that our priorities should be centered on God and His purposes. However, this can be challenging, especially when we have many responsibilities and goals that compete for our time and attention.
To prioritize our personal goals with our responsibilities, we need to take three steps: setting priorities, examining for inefficiency, and starting at the bottom and cutting. First, we need to set priorities by identifying what is most important to God and what aligns with His will. This involves learning to say no to things that are not essential and focusing on what is truly important. Second, we need to examine our goals and responsibilities for inefficiency, looking for areas where we can simplify and streamline our lives. This may involve delegating tasks, eliminating non-essential activities, and creating margin in our schedules. Finally, we need to start at the bottom and cut, eliminating tasks and responsibilities that are not essential and do not align with our priorities.
In setting priorities, we should also consider our values and goals. Are we acting as though our goal were the one that Scripture specifies, or do we have other goals that we have acted upon without consciously deciding to do so? We need to continually examine our values and goals to ensure that they are aligned with God's purposes. By prioritizing our personal goals with our responsibilities and focusing on what is most important to God, we can live a life that is pleasing to Him and fulfilling to our souls. Ultimately, our goal should be to please God and fulfill His will, and we should be willing to make sacrifices and adjustments to achieve this goal. As the psalmist says, "My heart says of you, 'Seek his face!' Your face, Lord, I will seek" (Psalm 27:8). We must seek God's face and prioritize our lives accordingly.
