Can I still have a sense of purpose with a terminal illness?

We often associate purpose with productivity and achievements, but what happens when our bodies are no longer able to perform as they once did? When faced with a terminal illness, it's easy to feel like we've lost our sense of purpose. However, this is not necessarily true. As the Bible teaches, "we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10). Our purpose is not defined by our physical abilities, but by our relationship with God and the good works He has prepared for us.

In fact, having a terminal illness can be an opportunity to re-evaluate our priorities and focus on what truly matters. We can use our time and energy to care for others, to share the love of Christ, and to point others to the hope of eternal life. As the apostle Paul wrote, "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain" (Philippians 1:21). Our purpose is not defined by our physical existence, but by our relationship with Christ. We can still have a sense of purpose even in the midst of suffering, as we trust in God's sovereignty and goodness.

Moreover, our suffering can be an opportunity for others to see the hope and love of Christ in action. We can be a witness to the power of God's love and redemption, even in the midst of pain and suffering. As the Bible says, "we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope" (Romans 5:3-4). Our purpose is not defined by our circumstances, but by our relationship with God and our trust in His goodness and sovereignty. We can still have a sense of purpose with a terminal illness, as we focus on what truly matters: our relationship with Christ and the good works He has prepared for us.
