Your Question:

Is this a test of my faith or a sign of God's abandonment?

Answer:

As I reflect on the passage, I'm reminded that true surrender and abandonment to God is not about questioning or seeking answers, but about trusting in His plan and presence, even when we can't see it. It's about surrendering our own understanding and emotions, and instead, focusing on who God is and what He is doing in our hearts.

When I feel like God has abandoned me, I have to be careful not to let my emotions dictate my faith. I've learned that feelings can lie, and if I focus on them, I'll never make the transaction of surrendering my will to Jesus Christ. It's a transaction of the will, not of emotion. As the passage says, "When you become simply a promoter or defender of a particular belief, something within you dies. That is not believing God; it is only believing our belief about Him."

For me, this means that when I'm faced with a crisis of faith, I need to focus on God's character and His promises, rather than my own doubts and fears. Philippians 1:6 comes to mind, "Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." I need to trust that God is working, even when I don't see it, and that He will meet me and touch me if I seek Him with a contrite, open, and humble heart.
