Your Question:

Can I ever forgive myself for not being able to take care of my parent?

Answer:

Forgiveness is a vital aspect of our relationship with God and others. As a pastor, I've seen the impact of unforgiveness on families and individuals. It's a heavy burden to carry, and it can lead to a breach in relationships. However, I believe that forgiveness is possible, even when it comes to our own perceived failures as parents.

I think about my own children, Joshua and Rebecca, and the times when I may not have been the perfect parent. I've made mistakes, and I've reacted out of fear instead of wisdom. But as I reflect on those moments, I realize that I've learned from them and grown as a person. I've also seen my children learn from their own mistakes and grow in their relationships with each other.

As I've struggled with unforgiveness in the past, I've come to understand that it's often a choice to continue holding onto those feelings. My Christian counselor once told me that if I'm still struggling with sin, it's because the sin is either unconfessed or I'm choosing to continue doing it. I've reconfessed my unforgiveness and asked for God's help to move forward. I believe that forgiveness is not only possible but also essential for healing and restoration in our relationships, including our relationship with ourselves.
