What is Agape Love?

Agape love is the highest form of love that puts others first, before self, in thought and action. It is the perfect love that God has for humanity, and it is the love that we are called to emulate as followers of Jesus Christ. Agape love is self-sacrifice, the seeking of another's positive good at one's own cost. It is a greater self-giving than God's gift of His Son, and it is the greatest example of love that has ever been or could be.

Agape love is not drawn out by merit, but rather it is a love that chooses to love regardless of the circumstances. It is a love that is not limited by the qualities of the person being loved, but rather it seeks to love them regardless of their flaws or shortcomings. Agape love is not a natural affection, nor is it romantic love, nor is it the love of friendship. Rather, it is a love that chooses to love even the unlovely, and it is the love that God has for His creation.

In order to understand agape love, we must first understand that it is not a competition with other forms of love. Rather, it enables them.
