A Question of Trust: Doctors and the Sovereignty of God

When we face a medical crisis, it's natural to question the trustworthiness of our doctors. The uncertainty of a diagnosis or the effectiveness of treatment can lead to anxiety and doubt. As Christians, we must navigate this uncertainty while maintaining our faith in God's sovereignty over all creation. The Sovereignty of God in Medicine

The Bible teaches us that God is sovereign over all creation, including the medical field. Psalm 103:19 says, "The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all." This means that God is not limited by human error or uncertainty. Even when doctors make mistakes or provide conflicting diagnoses, God's sovereignty remains unchanged. In the story of Job, we see how God allowed Satan to afflict Job with physical suffering, yet still maintained His sovereignty over the situation. This teaches us that even in the midst of medical uncertainty, God is still in control.

Trust in God, Not Just Doctors

So, can we ever trust a doctor again? The answer is not a simple yes or no. While doctors are human and subject to error, our trust should ultimately be in God, not just in doctors. As Christians, we must learn to trust in God's sovereignty and providence, even when the medical outcome is uncertain. This means that we should not put our trust solely in the advice of doctors, but also in the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
