Understanding the Question

The question "Why did God let me get into a car accident?" is a common inquiry that arises when faced with unexpected events, such as car accidents, natural disasters, or personal struggles. The question often stems from a faulty theology of suffering, which assumes that God's love and plan for our lives guarantee protection from harm. This assumption can lead to disappointment and frustration when we experience difficulties, as it seems to contradict the idea of a loving God.

Reframing the Question

The question can be reframed by considering the concept of sovereignty and God's relationship with humanity. God is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, and as such, He is not bound by human limitations or logic. His ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). This means that God's decisions and actions are not necessarily driven by human expectations or desires. In the context of the car accident, it's possible that God allowed the accident to happen for reasons that are beyond our understanding, such as to protect others, to teach us a lesson, or to bring us closer to Him.

The Sovereignty of God

Simply put, no logical incompatibility exists between God and the presence of evil in the world. But doesnt evil make God improbable? The answer is no. God is not responsible for evil, but He is sovereign over all things, including evil. We can trust that God is working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28).
