Can I really afford to lose my home?

As a Christian, we must consider the value of our earthly possessions in light of our eternal perspective. The Bible teaches us that our true home is not of this world, but rather in heaven with God (John 14:2). Our Lord Jesus said, "Let not your heart be troubled.... In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you" (John 14:1-2). This means that our focus should not be on accumulating wealth and material possessions, but rather on building a relationship with God and storing up treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:19-21).

In light of this, it's essential to reevaluate what we consider "affordable" when it comes to our homes. Instead of measuring affordability by the size of our mortgage or the cost of our monthly payments, we should consider the cost of our priorities. Are we prioritizing our relationship with God and our spiritual growth, or are we prioritizing our material possessions? The Bible warns us that "you cannot take your house with you, but you will surely take your soul with you" (Ecclesiastes 5:15). This means that our focus should be on building a home in heaven, not just a physical house on earth.

Ultimately, the question of whether we can afford to lose our home is not just a financial one, but a spiritual one. As Christians, we should be willing to let go of our earthly possessions if they are hindering our relationship with God or distracting us from our eternal priorities. As the Bible says, "What is beyond your needs is superfluous and useless" (Proverbs 30:8). By prioritizing our spiritual growth and our relationship with God, we can live a life of simplicity, contentment, and faith, even in the face of uncertainty or loss. We can trust that God will provide for us and give us a place to call home, both now and in eternity.
