Trusting Your Instincts After a Previous Betrayal

When we've experienced a previous betrayal, it's natural to question our ability to trust our own instincts. This skepticism can stem from a deep-seated fear of being hurt again. However, as Christians, we are called to trust in God's sovereignty and goodness, even when our circumstances don't make sense. The Bible reminds us that God's ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). This means that our instincts may not always be reliable, and that's okay.

In fact, the Bible teaches us that our sinful nature can lead us astray if we're not careful. The apostle Paul wrote, "For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) dwelleth no good thing" (Romans 7:18). This means that our own thoughts and instincts can be flawed and deceived. However, when we surrender our lives to Jesus Christ, we receive a new heart and a new spirit, which enables us to discern God's will and follow Him (Ezekiel 36:26-27). So, while our instincts may not always be trustworthy, we can trust in God's goodness and sovereignty, and seek His guidance and wisdom in all things.

Practicing Trust in God's Goodness

So, how can we trust our instincts after a previous betrayal? The answer lies in surrendering our lives to Jesus Christ and seeking His guidance and wisdom. When we put our trust in Him, we can say with the psalmist, "I will trust in You, O Lord, I will trust in You" (Psalm 38:15). This doesn't mean that we'll never make mistakes or experience pain again, but it does mean that we can face life's challenges with confidence and hope, knowing that God is with us and guiding us. As we practice trusting in God's goodness, we'll become more aware of our own flaws and limitations, and we'll learn to rely on Him for wisdom and guidance in all things. Ultimately, trusting our instincts after a previous betrayal requires a willingness to surrender our lives to Jesus Christ and seek His guidance and wisdom. When we do, we'll find that our trust in Him grows, and we'll be able to face life's challenges with confidence and hope.
