Understanding the Feeling of Abandonment by God

When you feel abandoned by God, it can be a challenging and painful experience. It's natural to wonder why God seems distant or unresponsive to your needs. However, as the Bible reminds us, "Abandonment means to refuse yourself the luxury of asking any questions" (emphasis added). This means that when we surrender to God and trust Him, we no longer worry about what He will do or how He will respond. Instead, we focus on our relationship with Him and His presence in our lives.

The feeling of abandonment can often be a result of our own struggles and roadblocks that prevent us from experiencing God's presence. These roadblocks can be habits, unconscious thoughts, or a lack of trust in God's goodness. The Bible warns us that we are susceptible to the enemy's attacks, which can lead to feelings of depression, anxiety, and fear (1 Pet. 5:8). When we grumble and show discontent, we are essentially saying that God is not present or that He is not working in our lives. However, the Bible teaches us that God is always seeking us, even when we feel abandoned (Jer. 23:1-8). He has a purpose for our lives, and we are His ambassadors.

If you feel abandoned by God, it's essential to seek His presence and trust in His goodness. The Bible promises that when we seek God, we will find Him (Matt. 7:7-8). We must narrow our focus and interests to seeking God and His presence in our lives. Acknowledge that God exists and that He has a particular interest in those who have been sinned against, neglected, or abandoned. Recognize that you are God's ambassador and that He has a purpose for your life. By seeking God's presence and trust, you can overcome the feeling of abandonment and experience His love and care in your life.
