Can I still have a sense of purpose if I'm no longer able to work?

A. Understanding Purpose in Life

As Christians, we believe that our purpose in life is to glorify God and enjoy a relationship with Him (Psalm 16:11). Our purpose is not solely tied to our work or career, but rather it is a reflection of our faith and relationship with Jesus Christ. The Bible teaches us that our purpose is not in our own strength, but in the power of God (Philippians 4:13).

B. Purpose Beyond Work

If we are no longer able to work due to various reasons, it does not mean that we have lost our sense of purpose. Our purpose is not defined by our job or career, but by our relationship with God. We can still have a sense of purpose by serving others, volunteering, or simply being a good neighbor. As the Bible says, "Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31). We can still glorify God and live out our faith even if we are not working in a traditional sense.

C. Finding Purpose in Christ

In times of uncertainty or change, it's essential to focus on Jesus and His purpose for our lives. As we run the race of life, we should keep our eyes fixed on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2). Our purpose is not just about what we do, but about who we are in Christ. We are called to be ambassadors of hope, sharing the love of God with others and pointing them to Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:20). By focusing on Jesus and His purpose for our lives, we can still have a sense of purpose even if we are no longer able to work. We can find joy and contentment in long-term, small steps of faith and obedience (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). As we trust in God's sovereignty and providence, we can find purpose and meaning in life, even in the midst of challenges.
