Rebuilding Trust in the Body

The question of whether we can trust our bodies again after a traumatic experience is a deeply personal and emotional one. It's natural to feel uncertain and insecure about our bodies, especially after a violation that has left us feeling broken and damaged. However, according to the Bible, God is a loving and redeeming God who desires to heal and restore us. In Matthew 9:29, Jesus says, "According to your faith let it be to you." This means that our faith and trust in God's goodness and power are crucial in determining our experience of healing and restoration.

As we navigate the process of rebuilding trust in our bodies, it's essential to understand that this journey is not about achieving a certain level of perfection or control over our bodies. Rather, it's about learning to trust God's sovereignty and goodness in the midst of uncertainty and imperfection. This means that we must surrender our need for control and perfection, and instead, learn to trust in God's ability to redeem and restore us. As C.S. Lewis says, "Handing everything over to Christ does not, of course, mean that you stop trying. To trust Him means, of course, trying to do all that He says." This means that we must continue to try and do what God says, even when it's difficult and uncomfortable.

Rebuilding trust in our bodies requires a willingness to surrender our pride and self-reliance, and instead, learn to rely on God's power and goodness. It's a process that takes time, patience, and perseverance, but ultimately, it's a journey that leads to greater intimacy and trust with God. As we learn to trust God's sovereignty and goodness, we can begin to see our bodies as a temple of the Holy Spirit, rather than a source of shame and insecurity.
