Why Does God Allow Us to Go Through Difficult Times?

#### A. God's Purpose for Difficult Times

God allows us to go through difficult times to ensure that we will learn to hold Him fast. This is the reason why the Bible spends so much time on the importance of perseverance and character development. Through our struggles and pain, we are being offered perseverance, the character of God. Hardships are intended to give us a spiritual makeover, making us more like Christ. This is a crucial aspect of our spiritual growth and development. God is not concerned about our plans; He doesn't ask, "Do you want to go through this loss of a loved one, this difficulty, or this defeat?" No, He allows these things for His own purpose.

#### B. The Role of Suffering in Our Lives

Suffering is a means to an end, not an end in itself. It is a way for God to teach us to trust in Him and to develop our character. Through suffering, God is trying to impress upon us the one thing that is not entirely right in our lives. He is not to blame, and it is not for us to figure out the reason for the difficulty, but only to present the truth of God so that the Spirit of God will reveal what is wrong. The greatest test of our faith is not in the easy times but in the hard times. When we go through difficult times, we are forced to rely on God and to trust in His goodness and sovereignty.

The upside of difficult times is that they provide opportunities for us to respond as Jesus would. Trials and persecution provide opportunities for the Christian to demonstrate their faith and to trust in God. This is not to say that difficult times are easy or that they are not painful. However, through these experiences, we can learn to trust in God and to develop our character. God is a strong rock, a firm defense, and a sure refuge and help for the weak. He meets us in our suffering and promises to bring us through it. Jesus is the end, not a means to an end. He is the one who gives us life to the fullest, and through Him, we can overcome even the most difficult challenges.
