Discovering Purpose in Life

As an evangelical Christian, I believe that our purpose in life is deeply connected to our relationship with God. We were created by Him and for Him, and our lives have meaning and significance because of this relationship. When we seek to find purpose in life, we must look to God and His plans for us. As the Bible says, "We are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10). This verse reminds us that our purpose is not something we create for ourselves, but rather it is something that God has already planned for us.

Finding Purpose in Christ

When we put our faith in Jesus Christ, we begin to understand our purpose in life. We are no longer just wandering aimlessly, trying to find meaning and significance in our own strength. Instead, we are guided by God's Word and empowered by the Holy Spirit to live out our purpose. As the Bible says, "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10). This verse reminds us that our purpose is not just about what we do, but about who we are in Christ. We are His children, and our purpose is to live out our lives in a way that honors Him.

Living Out Our Purpose

So, can we still find purpose in life if we're no longer working? Absolutely! Our purpose in life is not defined by our job or career, but by our relationship with God. Even in retirement or unemployment, we can still live out our purpose by serving God and others. We can volunteer, mentor, or simply be a presence of love and support to those around us. As the Bible says, "Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God" (1 Corinthians 10:31). This verse reminds us that our purpose is not just about what we do, but about why we do it. We do it all for the glory of God, and that gives our lives meaning and significance. Whether we're working or not, our purpose is to live out our lives in a way that honors God and brings glory to His name.
