Why Me? Is it because I'm not good enough?

The question "Why me?" often arises from a place of self-doubt and feelings of inadequacy. It's as if we're saying, "I'm not good enough, so why did God allow this to happen to me?" This mindset is rooted in a lack of understanding of God's sovereignty and our value in His eyes. As the Bible reminds us, "You were made in the very image of God" (Genesis 1:27). This staggering reality doesn't give us a license to boast, but it also doesn't leave us wallowing in the misery of feeling unworthy. We are not defined by our weaknesses or failures; we are defined by our identity as children of God.

When we ask "Why me?" we're often looking for answers that will justify our feelings of inadequacy. We might think, "If I were better, more successful, or more worthy, God wouldn't have allowed this to happen to me." But this line of thinking is flawed. Our worth and value come not from our achievements or external validation, but from our relationship with God. We are loved and accepted by Him, not because of who we are, but because of who He is. As the apostle Paul wrote, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16).

So, why did God allow this to happen to you? It's not because you're not good enough. It's not because you're not worthy. It's because God is working in you, even in the midst of difficulty and pain, to conform you to the image of His Son (Romans 8:29). He is using your struggles to make you stronger, to teach you valuable lessons, and to draw you closer to Himself. As we learn to trust in God's sovereignty and His love for us, we can begin to see that our worth and value come not from our circumstances, but from our identity as beloved children of God.
