Can my daily routines bring new life to my relationships when I'm feeling overwhelmed?
Navigating Overwhelm in Daily Routines
When we're feeling overwhelmed, it can be challenging to find new life in our relationships. Our daily routines can sometimes feel monotonous, and it's easy to get stuck in a rut. However, it's in these moments that we can discover new ways to bring vitality to our relationships. The first step is to recognize that our daily routines are not just about completing tasks, but about forming us into the people we are meant to be. As the Bible says, "every relationship you enter into, the habits that make up your days, whether or not you have social media (if you do, how you use it), how you respond to pain and suffering, how you handle failure or success—all these things and more are forming us into the people we are becoming" (emphasis added).
To bring new life to our relationships, we need to make a conscious effort to prioritize our relationship with our spouse and with God. This means being intentional about scheduling time for prayer, fellowship, and relationship-building activities. As one couple discovered, working from home allowed them to have more quality time together and strengthened their relationship. They found that by choosing the proper tools, keeping it short, making it fun, including a prayer time, and scheduling it for right before bed, they were able to be consistent and genuinely enjoy their time together. Similarly, we can find ways to prioritize our relationship with God by making time for prayer, Bible study, and worship.
Ultimately, our daily routines can either be a source of stress and overwhelm or a means of discovering new life and vitality in our relationships. By recognizing the importance of our daily habits and being intentional about prioritizing our relationship with our spouse and with God, we can find new ways to bring joy and fulfillment to our lives. As the Bible says, "you will be working on the wrong level throughout the day" if you don't prioritize your relationship with God (emphasis added). By swinging open the door of our life and letting God in, we can find the strength and guidance we need to navigate even the most challenging times and bring new life to our relationships.
