Understanding Obedience to God's Will

Living in obedience to God's will can be a challenging and ongoing process for many Christians. It requires a deep commitment to following God's commands and a willingness to surrender one's own desires and will to His. According to the Bible, obedience is not just about doing good actions, but about having a heart that is surrendered to God's will. When we truly obey God, we experience the power of His grace to live a godly life, as stated in Romans 8:4, "so that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit."

The Role of Faith and Conscience

Faith and conscience play a crucial role in obedience to God's will. When we have a personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ, we are given a new power to live a godly life. Our conscience, which is guided by God's perfect law, will direct us to obey God's commands. However, it is not just about knowing what to do, but also about having the will to do it. We must be willing to surrender our own desires and will to God's, and trust in His goodness and wisdom. As the Bible says in Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

The Importance of Total Surrender

Total surrender to God's will is essential for living in obedience to His commands. This means abandoning ourselves to God in total surrender, and trusting in His goodness and wisdom. We must be willing to say "yes" to God, even when it is difficult or uncomfortable. As Jesus said in Luke 9:23-24, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it." When we have a "I-will-do-anything-God-says" attitude towards the Father, we are more likely to experience the joy and peace that comes from living in obedience to God's will.
