Understanding the Call to Ministry

The call to ministry is a unique calling from God, distinct from the need to serve. The need is the opportunity to exercise the call, and it is not the same as the call itself. If you have received a ministry from the Lord Jesus, you will know that the need is not the same as the call. The call is to be faithful to the ministry you received when you were in true fellowship with God. This means that you must be sensitive to what God has called you to do, and this may sometimes require ignoring demands for service that are not in line with your calling.

Characteristics of Authentic Ministry

Authentic ministry is characterized by faithfulness to the call, and it is carried out with integrity and godly sincerity, relying upon the grace of God. It is not about lording it over people's faith, but rather about promoting their joy in the Lord. Authentic ministry is also marked by a willingness to suffer for the sake of the gospel, and it is not about seeking personal gain or recognition. Instead, it is about serving others for Jesus' sake. Recognizing Your Ministry

So, how do you know if you're being called to ministry? The key is to be sensitive to what God has called you to do. You may already be occupied in, or preparing for, the work God has for you to do. But you may not. If Christ is your Lord, you must open your minds to the possibility of a change. What is certain is that God calls every Christian to ministry, and it is not limited to a specific office or position. Your ministry may involve serving others in your local church, or it may involve serving in a broader context. Whatever it is, it is essential to be faithful to your calling and to rely on the grace of God to empower you in your ministry.
