Why does God hate lying so much?

God hates lying because it is a direct affront to His nature. As the Author of truth, God is characterized by honesty and integrity. His Word embodies truth (John 17:17), and He is the embodiment of truth (John 14:6). When we lie, we are, in essence, denying God's character and diminishing His glory.
