Modeling Gospel Grace to Your Children

As you strive to cultivate Christlike character in your children, it's essential to model a healthy understanding of gospel grace. This means teaching them to rule their spirits consistently, which involves understanding the concept of regenerating grace. According to Jesus, our heavenly Father gives the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him (Luke 11:13). As parents, grandparents, or guardians, it's your duty and privilege to pray for regenerating grace in your child's life. This grace enables them to live a life that reflects the character of Jesus.

To model gospel grace, you should also teach your children about the importance of self-control. This involves helping them understand that they are not perfect and that it's okay to make mistakes. As you discipline your child, remember to share the love and forgiveness of Jesus. You can say something like, "I love you, and I'm disappointed in your behavior. But I know that God loves you even more, and He forgives you when you ask for forgiveness." This helps your child understand that grace is always a part of love and discipline. By modeling this behavior, you're teaching your child that they can trust in God's love and forgiveness, even when they make mistakes.

As you teach your child about gospel grace, be sure to model it in your own life. Share stories from the Bible that illustrate the character of Jesus, and explain how His love and forgiveness can apply to your child's life. For example, you can share the story of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32), who was forgiven by his father despite his rebellious behavior.
