When we face the possibility of no longer being needed, it's natural to feel uncertain and anxious. In Psalm 37:4, David writes, "Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart." This verse suggests that our needs are met when we put God first and seek to delight in Him. The Bible teaches that our lives on earth are temporary and that our bodies will eventually cease to function. In 2 Corinthians 4:16-18, Paul writes, "Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." This passage reminds us that our focus should be on the eternal and the unseen, rather than the temporary and the seen. Ultimately, being "needed" is not the same as being "loved." Our worth and value come from God's love for us, not from our usefulness or productivity. We can learn to find joy and purpose in serving others, not because we need to be needed, but because we are called to serve and love others as a reflection of God's love for us. In this way, we can live a life of purpose and meaning, even when we are no longer needed in the way we once were.
