The Challenge of Changing Culture

Changing culture is a complex and daunting task. It requires a deep understanding of the underlying values and beliefs that shape our society. If we are to bridge the gap between different cultures and communities, we must first acknowledge the role that culture plays in shaping our moral and social norms. As the Bible teaches, God created the world in six literal days, and it is through His Word that we gain a better understanding of the world and our place in it.

The Problem of Cultural Relativism

Cultural relativism, which holds that no culture is better than another, poses a significant challenge to moral reform. If morals are determined by cultural agreement, based on the beliefs of the majority, how are we to avoid culturally selfish acts? This approach marginalizes moral reformers and makes it difficult to address distressing issues and false ideologies that are contributing to the moral and spiritual breakdown of our culture. As the Bible teaches, we are called to be salt and light in the world, to speak truth to power, and to challenge the status quo when it is unjust.

The Power of Redefining Ideas

Changing culture requires a grassroots approach, starting with individuals, families, and communities. We must redefine ideas and values that are shaping our culture, and encourage a broader societal impact. This requires a good representation of culture-shaping elites, such as leaders in education, media, and politics, to embrace new ideas and values. As the Bible teaches, we are called to be wise and discerning, to think critically and biblically, and to challenge the prevailing cultural winds of political correctness. By doing so, we can create a culture that is more just, more compassionate, and more reflective of God's character. (Matthew 5:16, 1 Corinthians 3:16-17)
