Your Question:

How do I keep my marriage strong after what happened?

Answer:

As someone who has been married for 19 years, I understand the importance of maintaining a strong marriage. After experiencing any difficulties, it's essential to take it out in prayer, grow through the tough times, and wait for love to be resurrected. We have to go through the pain to get to the joy. It's crucial to decide if you want your marriage to work and if you're willing to do whatever it takes, within healthy parameters, to see it happen.

It's also vital to believe that the part of your relationship that has been eaten away by pain, indifference, and selfishness can be restored. You have to trust that what has been hurt and the armor we've put up to protect ourselves can be lifted, and we can move into the healing and wholeness that God has for us. It's not about writing off the marriage or asking God to give you a new husband; it's about praying for God to take the one you have and make him a new person. Pray for your marriage to be protected from any person or situation that could destroy it, and ask the Lord to do whatever it takes to keep the marriage intact.

In our marriage, my wife Susan and I have learned to pray together, to communicate effectively, and to serve each other. We've also learned to deny ourselves and to become more selfless in our relationship. We pray that our marriage is a place where two agree, so God will be in the midst of it (Matthew 18:19-20). We also pray for forgiveness, kindness, and gentleness, and we ask God to break down any barriers that may be standing between us. By doing so, we've been able to maintain a strong and loving marriage, and we continue to grow and learn together.
