The Importance of Spiritual Combat

The Bible teaches that spiritual warfare is a real and necessary part of the Christian life. In Ephesians 6:12, Paul writes, "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." This means that as Christians, we are not fighting against people, but against the evil powers that seek to destroy us and our faith.

The Role of Prayer in Spiritual Combat

Prayer is a crucial aspect of spiritual combat. Paul urges that prayer be offered for all, especially those in authority, so that they may promote conditions in which people will come to salvation (Ephesians 2:1-7). This means that we should be praying for those in positions of power, that they may be used by God to bring people to salvation. Additionally, Paul teaches that we should pray in the right spirit, with a heart that is humble, grateful, and surrendered to God (Ephesians 5:18-20). This involves settling the matter of sin with God before dealing with others, and not resorting to violence or aggression.
