As a pastor and a man of faith, I've seen firsthand how faith is tested by uncertainty and chaos in a world of conflicting values. It's a reality that we all face at some point in our lives, whether it's a personal struggle, a family crisis, or a global pandemic. When we're faced with uncertainty, our natural instinct is to doubt and question God's presence and power in our lives. But, as Jesus himself said, "Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?" (John 11:40). This verse reminds us that faith is not about feeling or seeing, but about trusting and believing in God's promises, even when circumstances contradict them.
In my experience, faith is not about avoiding uncertainty or chaos, but about trusting God in the midst of it. When we face difficult circumstances, we have a choice to make: we can either let doubt and fear take over, or we can choose to trust in God's goodness and sovereignty. As the Bible says, "Faith, like the sublime and like metaphysical speculation, is necessarily a trust." (249 II. HOW DOES FAITH WORK?) This trust is not based on our feelings or circumstances, but on the promises and character of God. When we trust in God, we can find peace and comfort, even in the midst of uncertainty and chaos.
As a pastor, I've seen many people struggle with faith in the face of uncertainty. But I've also seen the power of faith to transform lives and bring hope in the midst of darkness. When we choose to trust in God, we can find the strength and courage to face whatever challenges come our way. As the Bible says, "Faith is the opinion that some person will do something for you." (Salvation 143) In this case, the person is God, and He promises to be with us always, to guide us through the darkest of times, and to bring us to a place of victory and triumph.
