Biblical Answer

From the Bible, we can see that uncertainty and doubt are not foreign to the human experience. In fact, the Bible teaches that faith and doubt can coexist. For example, the apostle Thomas, one of Jesus' twelve disciples, doubted Jesus' resurrection even after seeing the empty tomb and speaking with Jesus himself. Yet, Jesus still chose to use Thomas' doubt as an opportunity to reveal himself and to teach Thomas about faith (John 20:24-29). This example illustrates that even in the midst of uncertainty and doubt, we can still find meaning and purpose in life through our relationship with God.

The Bible also teaches that uncertainty and doubt can be a catalyst for spiritual growth. The psalmist writes, "I said to myself, 'I will watch what I do and not sin in what I say. I will restrain my tongue when I am in distress.' But when I was silent and still, not even saying anything good, then my anguish grew worse; I hid my face in my hands, covering my eyes and my mouth. I looked to the Lord my God for help; why, Lord, do you reject me and hide your face from me? I call out to you, Lord; come quickly to me; hear me when I call to you for mercy. You, Lord, are my help and my deliverer. You light up my life and bring joy to my heart. Do not take away your help from me; do not leave me to be destroyed" (Psalm 30:5-7, 11-12). This psalm illustrates that even in the midst of uncertainty and doubt, we can still turn to God for help and guidance.

Ultimately, the Bible teaches that our search for meaning and purpose in life is not about finding certainty, but about finding God in the midst of uncertainty. As the apostle Paul writes, "We live by faith, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7). This means that even when we don't have all the answers or can't see what the future holds, we can still trust in God's sovereignty and goodness. By placing our faith in God, we can find meaning and purpose in life, even in the midst of uncertainty and doubt. As the Bible says, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11). This promise reminds us that even in the midst of uncertainty, we can trust in God's goodness and plan for our lives.
