Can I really trust my own heart?

In the Bible, we see that the heart is a complex and mysterious part of human nature. While our heart can be a source of guidance and wisdom, it can also lead us astray. As Jesus said, "For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness" (Mark 7:21-22). This means that our heart can be prone to sin and self-centeredness, which can lead us away from God. Therefore, it's not wise to trust our heart as the ultimate authority in our lives.

However, this doesn't mean that we should completely dismiss our heart or emotions. Instead, we should seek to trust in Jesus Christ, who is the ultimate authority and guide for our lives. As we learn to trust in Him, we can begin to trust in His presence and guidance, even when our heart is uncertain or conflicted. This is a key aspect of the Christian life, as Jesus said, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:21). By trusting in Jesus and seeking to follow Him, we can learn to trust in His goodness and sovereignty, even when our heart is unsure.

Ultimately, trusting our heart can lead to a life of uncertainty and fear, while trusting in Jesus Christ can lead to a life of peace and hope. As the Bible says, "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love" (1 Corinthians 13:13). By trusting in Jesus and seeking to love Him and others, we can learn to trust in His presence and guidance, even when our heart is uncertain or conflicted. This is a key aspect of the Christian life, and one that can bring us peace, hope, and joy in the midst of uncertainty.
