The Purpose of Marriage

The Bible teaches that marriage is a sacred institution created by God for several purposes. One of the primary purposes of marriage is to provide a relationship or fellowship between two people. This relationship is characterized by oneness, wholeness, and love. In the book of Genesis, we read that God created Adam as a male, but he was incomplete until God created Eve as his companion. In Ephesians 5:22-23, Paul writes that husbands are to love their wives as Christ loves the church, and that wives are to submit to their husbands as the church submits to Christ.

Marriage as a Friendship

Just as Christ gave himself up for the church, husbands are called to give themselves up for their wives. This selfless love is the hallmark of a healthy and fulfilling marriage.
