The Nature of Fear in Christianity

Fear is a natural human emotion that can be present in anyone's life, including Christians. However, the Bible teaches that Christians need not fear because their victory is secure in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As co-heirs with Christ, Christians will judge the angels (Romans 8:17; 1 Corinthians 6:3). The God of the Bible has made it clear that He has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7).

The Source of Fear in Christians

Fear in Christians is often rooted in a lack of faith. When we fear, it is often because we are uncertain about the outcome of a situation or because we are not trusting in God's sovereignty. Our fear is not that we will be damned, but that Jesus Christ will be defeated. We fear that the things our Lord stood for, such as love, justice, forgiveness, and kindness, will not win out in the end. This type of fear is not based on a lack of faith, but rather a lack of understanding of God's character and promises.

Overcoming Fear through Faith

The Bible teaches that fearlessness is born of faith in God. When we trust in God's power, love, and sovereignty, we are able to overcome fear. In fact, the Bible says that we should not fear those whose powers are limited, but rather fear God, who has authority beyond death and has power to cast into hell. The fear of God is a right view of God that impels us to godly living. Therefore, Christians should not be afraid to feel fear, but rather use it as an opportunity to deepen their faith and trust in God. By speaking to our fears in the name of Jesus and trusting in His power, we can experience victory over demonic forces and live a life that reflects our faith in Him.
