When Everything Falls Apart: Keeping Your Faith

When everything is falling apart, it can be challenging to keep our faith intact. However, as we delve into the scriptures and reflect on our relationship with God, we can discover the strength to hold on to our faith. The Bible teaches us that faith is not just a feeling or an emotional response, but a deliberate commitment to the Person of Jesus Christ (Hebrews 11:6). It's a trust in God's goodness, even when we can't see the way ahead (Romans 4:20-21).

To keep our faith when everything is falling apart, we need to establish a daily personal time with God. This is when we talk to Him and He talks to us, friend to friend. As we cultivate a prayer-relationship with God, we'll begin to understand His ways and trust in His goodness, even in the midst of chaos. We must also assess our faith and identify any obstacles that may be hindering it. Ask yourself questions like: "Have I been waiting seemingly forever for God to open the door for a move or a new opportunity?" or "What role can faith play in my life when I hit a wall or get discouraged because the odds seem overwhelming?" By understanding our faith and the role it plays in our lives, we can begin to overcome obstacles and develop a stronger faith.

In times of crisis, it's essential to remember that faith is not about feeling strong or confident, but about trusting in God's goodness and sovereignty. We can't force faith upon ourselves, nor can we abandon it when things don't go as planned. Instead, we must commit to the Person of Jesus Christ and trust in His promises, even when we don't see the way ahead. As the Bible says, "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17). By continually hearing and obeying God's word, we can develop a strong faith that will carry us through even the most challenging times. With God, we can have faith that will not fail, and our trust in Him will be the anchor that holds us fast. (Hebrews 10:23). As we hold on to our faith, we'll discover that God is holy love, and His love will sustain us through even the darkest of times. (Psalm 23:4). By trusting in God's goodness and sovereignty, we can keep our faith when everything falls apart.
