Your Question:

How do we balance love and sacrifice in our daily routines?

Answer:

As a husband and a pastor, I've come to realize that balancing love and sacrifice in our daily routines is a crucial aspect of a healthy marriage. It's not just about feeling affectionate towards our spouse, but also about making unselfish actions that cost us something. For me, it's about asking myself how I've loved my wife, Susan, in the past few weeks in a way that has cost me something - vocationally, financially, or with my hobbies and time. Am I using the sometimes unpleasant realities of life to shape my nature towards having the heart of a servant?

To answer this question, I must remember that true love is revealed not only in the supreme sacrifice, but also in all lesser givings. As a husband, I need to constantly look for opportunities to share my time, possessions, and expertise with my wife. This could be as simple as helping with household chores or listening to her needs without interrupting. By doing so, I'm not only showing my love and care for her, but also teaching our children, Joshua and Rebecca, the value of sacrifice and service.

As I reflect on my own marriage, I realize that I've been blessed with a wonderful wife who has been a constant source of encouragement and support. However, I also know that I'm not perfect, and there are times when I've failed to make sacrifices for her. But through the help of God's love and the principles of service, I'm learning to prioritize my wife's needs over my own desires. By doing so, I'm not only strengthening our marriage, but also modeling a healthy relationship for our children, which will benefit them for the rest of their lives.
