Biblical Answer

The Bible says that work is a calling, and we are to put our hearts into it, seeing ourselves as working for the Lord, not any human master (Col. 3:23-24). This means that work is not just a means to an end, but an end in itself. We are to find satisfaction in our work, and enjoy it, as long as we are not neglecting other obligations or failing to attend to our health. In fact, the Bible says that work can be a positive thing, even after sin's entrance, as it is still a human responsibility to subdue and rule the earth (Genesis 1:28).

The Bible also teaches that work is a sacred gift that is bound up with our priestly calling. In Psalm 90:17, we pray that the favor of the Lord may rest upon us, and that we may work the work of the Lord, and that our labor may be blessed. This means that we are to connect our work with a larger purpose, and gain satisfaction from it. The Bible also says that we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them (Eph. 2:8-10). This means that our work is not just a matter of personal preference, but a matter of obedience to God.

The Bible also teaches that work is not just a human endeavor, but a divine one. In Philippians 2:13, we read that God works in us both to will and to work for his good pleasure. This means that our work is not just a matter of our own efforts, but a matter of God's guidance and empowerment.
