Is this a sign of weakness?

In the biblical context, boasting about spiritual experiences is considered a sign of weakness. Paul, in his letter to the Corinthians, returns to boasting about his personal weaknesses, rather than his strengths, as the safe ground of boasting. He develops this idea, saying that God's strength is made perfect in human weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). This suggests that weakness is not something to be ashamed of, but rather a sign of vulnerability and dependence on God.

In contrast, boasting about one's strengths or abilities can be a sign of pride and self-reliance, which is not in line with the teachings of Christ. As Jesus said, "Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted" (Matthew 23:12). This means that recognizing and acknowledging our weaknesses is a sign of humility and a willingness to seek God's strength and guidance.

Furthermore, the Bible teaches that our weaknesses are not something to be hidden or ashamed of, but rather something to be confessed and prayed about. Prayer moves God to work in our lives, and acknowledging our weaknesses can lead to a deeper dependence on Him. As Paul said, "I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong" (2 Corinthians 12:10). This shows that weakness is not a sign of defeat, but rather a sign of dependence on God's strength and power.
