Facing the Unknown with Faith

The question of whether it's wrong to feel scared of the future when we don't know what's going to happen is a valid one. Many of us have experienced moments of uncertainty and fear about the future, whether it's related to our personal lives, relationships, or the world at large. However, as followers of Christ, we're called to trust in God's sovereignty and goodness, even when we can't see what's ahead.

The Sovereignty of God

The Bible teaches us that God is in control of all things, including the future (Psalm 115:3). This truth should bring us comfort and peace, knowing that our lives are not a product of chance or luck, but rather the result of God's wise and loving guidance. Instead of attributing events to luck, we can begin to see them as under the control of our heavenly Father, which can bring a sense of peace and trust. As the Psalmist writes, "I will lift up my eyes to the hills— from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth" (Psalm 121:1-2).

Trust in God's Providence

When we worry about the future, we're essentially saying that we don't trust God to take care of us. Worrying is a form of unbelief, which can lead to fear and anxiety. Instead, we can choose to trust in God's providence and goodness, even when we don't know what's ahead. As Jesus teaches, "Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?" (Matthew 6:25). By focusing on God's character and promises, we can learn to trust in His goodness and sovereignty, even in the face of uncertainty. This doesn't mean that we won't experience fear or anxiety, but it does mean that we can learn to face the unknown with faith and trust in God's loving care.
