Your Question:
How do we choose between love and anger in our daily routines when we're feeling overwhelmed?
Answer:
Choosing between love and anger in our daily routines can be a challenging task, especially when we're feeling overwhelmed. As a pastor, I've seen many individuals struggle with anger, and it's essential to understand that anger is ultimately about trusting God. When we're angry, it's often because we don't trust that God is in control or that He loves us well. This is where the opportunity to know Him better arises. To navigate between love and anger, we need to understand the root of our anger. Are we angry because of unmet personal needs or because we're imitating God's holiness? As it says in Leviticus 11:44, "Be holy, because I am holy." We must learn to imitate God, not simply react to our emotions. This involves repenting of our anger and bringing it to Jesus daily for redemption. My family and I have found it helpful to memorize Scripture, such as Ephesians 4:25-32, to diffuse angry outbursts and focus on loving one another. In our daily routines, we can choose to respond to anger in two ways: with a low flashpoint or a slow burn. A low flashpoint involves responding quickly without reflection, while a slow burn allows the anger to continue and deepen. Both can lead to harm, and Scripture teaches us to keep our wits about us (James 1:19) and not let anger last till the next day (Ephesians 4:26). By choosing love over anger, we can build stronger relationships, respond defensively, and trust in God's love and power.
