Why Did God Take My Business?

When we lose our business, it can be a source of confusion and questioning, particularly when we wonder if God is behind it. The biblical account of Job's story offers a similar scenario, where Job questions God's goodness and intentions behind his suffering. However, when God appears to Job, he submits to God without an explanation of why he suffered. This example illustrates that our relationship with God is not on an employer-employee basis, but rather a friend-to-friend relationship. God does not owe us an explanation for His actions, and His purposes may not be immediately clear to us.

In a similar vein, a businessman who sought out Robertsons advice shared a story about how God had provided for him and his family through a family business, but later took it away from him. Robertson responded by saying that God doesn't want us to achieve great things in His name, but rather to love Him, wait upon Him, and praise Him. Then, God can work through us to achieve His purposes. This perspective emphasizes that God's actions are not always about achieving success or prosperity, but about growing us in our faith and relationship with Him.

The Bible teaches us that God's ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). When we lose our business, it may be an opportunity for us to trust God and His sovereignty over our lives. As Mr. Whittemore said, "God doesn't want you to achieve great things in His name, Jerry. He just wants you to love Him, to thank Him, to wait upon Him, and to praise Him." By focusing on our relationship with God and trusting in His goodness, we can learn to see the hand of God in all circumstances, even when we don't understand them. Ultimately, God's goal is to produce the finished product of a life that reflects His character and glory. The process may be difficult and painful at times, but it is all part of God's plan to grow us in our faith and relationship with Him.
