Understanding God's Sovereignty

God's sovereignty is a difficult concept to grasp, especially when it comes to the question of why He takes our businesses. From the perspective of Job, we see a similar struggle. Job questioned God's goodness, wondering why an innocent person like him was suffering. However, when God appeared to him, Job submitted without an explanation of why he suffered. This is a crucial lesson for us. When we are faced with unanswerable questions, we must learn to trust in God's sovereignty. We must understand that His actions are not motivated by a desire to harm us, but rather to bring us into a deeper relationship with Him.

A Different Perspective

When we view our businesses as an extension of our relationship with God, our perspective changes. We begin to see that our success or failure is not the primary concern. Rather, it is about how we respond to God's sovereignty in our lives. As Mr. Whittemore said, "God doesn't want you to achieve great things in His name, Jerry. He just wants you to love Him, to trust Him, to wait upon Him, and to praise Him." When we focus on loving and trusting God, He is free to do His work through us. This is not about achieving success or avoiding failure, but about surrendering to God's sovereignty.

A New Mindset

When we adopt this mindset, we begin to see that our businesses are not our own, but rather a means of serving God. We are no longer the ones in control, but rather servants of God, doing what pleases Him. As we grow in the Christian life, it becomes simpler to understand God's purposes. We no longer strive to find out why He took our businesses, but rather trust that He is working everything out for our good. When we learn to love and trust God, we are free to serve Him, and He is free to do His work through us. This is the key to understanding why God takes our businesses. It's not about achieving success or avoiding failure, but about surrendering to God's sovereignty and trusting in His goodness.
