The Difficulty of Trusting Others

When we have been hurt or betrayed by someone we trusted, it can be challenging to trust others again. This is because our trust is tied to the person who hurt us, and when that relationship is damaged, it can be difficult to extend our trust to others. This is especially true if the person who hurt us was someone we were deeply connected to, such as a family member or close friend. In such cases, our trust in others can become uncertain, jeopardizing all other values and undermining all relationships.

Trusting in Jesus

However, as Christians, we are called to trust in Jesus, not just in people. This trust is not based on the probability of someone being faithful or perfect, but rather on the evidence of Jesus' character and love. When we trust in Jesus, we are not trusting in a person, but in the One who is sovereign over all creation. This trust is not earned, but rather it is a gift that we receive through faith in Jesus. As we trust in Jesus, we can experience more peace, less doubt, and less fear, because our trust is securely anchored in Him.

Learning to Trust Others Again

While it is possible to trust in Jesus, it is also possible to learn to trust others again. This requires a willingness to take risks and to extend our trust to others, even if they have hurt us in the past. It also requires a willingness to forgive and to work towards healing and restoration in our relationships. As we learn to trust others again, we can begin to rebuild our relationships and to experience the joy and intimacy that comes from trusting others. Ultimately, our trust in others should be secondary to our trust in Jesus, but it is still an important part of living out our faith in community.
