Your Question:
what's the point of praying when god doesn't answer?
Answer:
As a pastor, I've had my fair share of conversations with people who struggle with the idea of prayer and God's response. They often ask, "What's the point of praying if God doesn't answer?" But I believe that's a misunderstanding of what prayer is all about. Prayer isn't just about getting God to do what we want; it's about building a relationship with Him and seeking His will. James 4:2 says, "You do not have, because you do not ask." This verse implies that prayer is not just a means of getting what we want, but also a means of receiving what God wants to give us. Jesus also says, "Ask, and it will be given to you" (Matthew 7:7). This doesn't mean that God will always answer our prayers in the way we want, but it does mean that He is eager to give us what we need. The problem is that we often have a small faith, expecting God to answer our prayers only occasionally. But the Bible teaches us to pray persistently, to "tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high" (Luke 24:49). This means that we must be willing to wait on God and trust that He will answer our prayers in His own time and way. And even when we don't receive the answer we're looking for, we can be confident that God is still working in our lives and that our prayers are not in vain (Romans 8:26-27).
