Understanding Rest in the Lord

Resting in the Lord means entrusting our problems to Him and leaving them in His hands, even when we're feeling overwhelmed. It's a call to surrender our exhaustion and frustration to God, recognizing that He is our source of power and strength. When we're tired and worn out, we can easily fall into the trap of fretting and anxiety, but Psalm 37:7-8 reminds us to "Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him... Do not fret, it only causes harm." This means that we need to learn to entrust our problems to God and leave them in His hands, rather than trying to control or solve them on our own.

Experiencing Rest in the Lord

Experiencing rest in the Lord requires us to be intentional about slowing down and making space for God to transform us. This means being disciplined in our Bible reading and prayer, and recognizing that God speaks to us through the Bible. It also means being willing to surrender our exhaustion and frustration to God, and trusting that He will give us the strength and rest we need. Jesus offers Himself as the source of comfort and rest, saying "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). This means that we can come to Him with our problems and our exhaustion, and trust that He will give us the rest and peace we need.

Practicing Rest in the Lord

Practicing rest in the Lord means being intentional about creating space for God to work in our lives. This means setting aside time for Bible reading and prayer, and being willing to surrender our exhaustion and frustration to God. It also means being willing to trust God even when we don't understand what's happening, and recognizing that He is sovereign over all of our lives. As Isaiah 62:5 says, "You will no longer be called Deserted, and your land will no longer be called Desolate. But you will be called Hephzibah, and your land will be called Beulah; for the Lord delights in you." This means that we can trust that God delights in us, and that He will give us the rest and peace we need when we come to Him in faith.
